Today I will try to keep my carbs low and go to the gym and run.

The past two weeks have reminded me that there-is-no-way I can have more than 50 carbs a day, more than two days a week, and not *gain* net weight.

I was on this site for nearly 6 years 'calorie counting' and never lost more than 3 pounds a year until I started going 7 days at a time at <20 carbs a day.

For me, it is all about the carbs, period.

yaa, ya gotta just keep those carbs down. 👇🙌 for me I feel so crappy after carbs, it is easier for me to stick with under 20. how do you feel after you eat carbs?

@jenjabba - I always get hungry and lethargic after binging on carbs. I always indulge at least once a week however, because gluconeogenesis alone will provide my muscles with glycogen, but not 'top my levels off' which is needed to 'lift heavy' in the gym. 'Carbing up' will provide my muscles with the maximum levels of glycogen. However, I will-slowing-get-fat over time so I have to do it 'sparingly'.

I love that you always have a plan and know exactly what you want to do and how. For me, I have to have carbs, just can't give them up and won't unless something happens that I HAVE to. But because of this site and reading all the journals I do keep an eye on carbs and try to get most of them from non processed foods, like fruits, vegetables and beans. I have really learned a lot from other people about what works for them.

I don't feel bad when I eat carbs, except for the initial little sugar jolt. But I do not like that eating carbs leaves me hungry even when I eat more than I normally do. I can regulate my food intake so much better when low carbing.

Keeping carbs down has become (is increasingly becoming) a way of life. I was recently visiting friends on a bit of PTO. Going out to lunches and dinners and it was very easy to turn down the carbs (and alcohol for that matter), and stay on plan. It's my WOE. Everybody gets to make choices. I put no judgement on others who decide to eat (and live for that matter) some other way. Hang in there!!

@HardDaysKnight - Totally agree :) I am sharing my experience for people like me who *really trying hard* but can't get out of the *obese* weight level. I simply had to *stop listening* to people who said *it's all about calorie counting*. I had been obese *all* my adult life. For over a year now I have averaged within 5 pounds of my BMI weight. The difference is in the carbs, my carefully recorded data proves it. yes, the calories are less, but that is because calorie are calculated from macros, so when a macro is reduced the calorie count must mathematically go down. However, *for me* just reducing calories to a 'calculated deficit' will not provide weight loss because my metabolism will continue to slow if I consume > 200 carbs a day. Only by reducing carbs <20 will *force* my body to burn fat.

I have the same issue in that I stall when I eat more than 20 g of carbs. I’m doing an experiment/challenge that wants me to get 20g fiber, and <30 g net carbs and 60% fat. I’m a long way from goal and my body chemistry is very different from yours. I am always interested in observations about carbs. (I’m Type 2) thanks for your post.

I just watched a talk on YouTube by Michael Eades (a low carb guy) on a gut enzyme called incretins which aids the pancras in that it signals when to send out insulin to deal with the food you are eating. In it he discusses how the composition of foods is important if you want to control insulin release. So the ideas were that the more processed the carbfoods were the more insulin you would release. So that means that whole food carbs are so much better to eat than processed carbs. Fats and especially fats combined with carbs also could see insulin reaction and protein not so much. To me that kind of explain why I can eat a lot of veggie carbs and not see scale go up but with bread carbs it will even when the amount is not that different. Eades also said... always eat the carbs last

Totally unsolicited advice. <20 net carbs p/day will certainly trigger ketosis (fat burning mode), but you are very close to an ideal weight (by numbers). If you are working out intensely, be careful, your body needs fuel. I know you already know this - those carbs are stored in liver as glycogen for up to 24 hours, and become excellent fuel. They are burned up. When your body stops burning fat, and has no carbs (glycogen) to burn, things can get nasty. I ride 40 - 50 mile rides 5 p/wk & have switched from Keto style to giving my body the fuel it needs to perform.

@rgaDawg - I don't disagree with your assessment, but even at my BMI weight I still have *plenty* of fat to burn :)

@liv001 - Yes I agree that the carbs in an apple will affect me totally different than those cookies I was mindlessly eating yesterday 😉. It's a shame all carbs are 'lumped together'.

With the Carbs, I basically need them right after the intense WOD. With my Self Commitment to the Gym and/or Relief from Stress, I need them practically every day. Very Little is needed on Sunday, which is my rest/recovery day.

@CrashtestDawnie - Hah Thanks :) The only way I think I will stay on track is to do a two hour run. It's amazing how this 'fully shuts the appetite down'. I would rather hit the gym, but, as you know you *can* eat after working out. If I do a long run, where my heart rate is 160+ for over an hour, my body goes into fat burning mode and refuses to even think about food for hours afterward...

Employing an eye to monitor the thoughts running through the head prior to a binge can be helpful. I've done that a few times, and over time find ways to fix it. Besides that, you may deal with fear of fat. I know I do. Not long ago I felt a frustrated and sucked down like 4oz of salted butter and got amazed with the healing effect it had. Put me on track. A reset button, so to speak.
