What do we get for being buddies? Is there a special list or something that will show up somewhere?

You get the kind of interaction and support that buddies give one another. On the right of your screen under "My Fat Secret." Click on the icon that reads "My Buddies." You will see that you have nine (9) buddies. These individuals will challenge and support you as they respond to your journal entries. You may also invite other members to be your buddy nby clicking on their profiles. My sincere apologies if you already knew this info. It seemed that you were asking about buddy status.
