I know this isn't a grief website, but this is the only place I journal. My puppy died last night. It took about ten seconds and the vet did an autopsy and found a rare instance of--in laymans terms--a twist in the intestines that released a chemical that stopped her heart. She was a sweet, sweet, pup and she truly made the last four years of my husband's and my life so much happier. She was vibrant and kind and loving and funny and everything that a person could want in a pup. We don't have children, Brent and I, and so Basil and Gabby are all we have to care for. Now it's just Gabby who walks around smelling Basil's bedclothes inside the house and the dirt on top of her grave outside. I wish she understood. I know the difference between people and dogs. I know that there are no symptoms for what she had with no way to prevent it, that she had a good life, that she was loved so much, and that will be very comforting later...but today, I am very, very sad.

I am SO sorry to hear about your puppy. Especially so quick. This is a support group for anything you want to talk about. I can only say I know how hard it is when you expect them to be there. I had my last dog for 18 years. I got 2 new puppies last year. The picture in my icon is one of them called Nibbles. They are family. Yes, they know you loved them!

So sorry to hear about your loss. We lost one of our beloved dogs, several years ago to gastric torsion too ... it was unexpected and very sad. Animals are a big part of our family. This site I think is a life site ... not just weight loss. So this is the perfect place to share. My thoughts too will be with you and your husband. Take care of yourselves.

My husband lost his Basset Hound to this suddenly one night several years ago. Humphrey had been his lifelong friend for 15 years and this devastated him. We have three now and they are our children in many ways (laugh if you want). Please know that many of us share your pain (not that it helps) and we hope your family mends with time. You'll be getting many mental hugs from strangers, not just the ones who respond.

Losing a pet is something that stays with you forever. I still think about and miss pets I had 25 years ago, they brought/bring such joy into our lives. That is what is so wonderful about FS, it is not just about losing weight. I am sorry about the loss of your Basil and the sadness of Gabby. When I lost Frankie to cancer, Willie lost 6 pounds the first week. They mourn like we do. But where we understand what happened, they do not. I know you are giving Gabby extra TLC. Both Frankie and Willie are now gone and I adopted a little 3 legged ball of energy named Zoe. ((hugs))

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your thoughts during this sad time. You have all been very supportive and I am truly thankful. Things are a bit better, but we are still healing. I can't express my appreciation to ya'll enough. Thanks again.
