Hunger Free Fasting Plan

After a bit of trial and error, I have seemed to have come up with a fasting system that avoids the uncomfortable feeling of hunger.

Day 1 - (less than 1000 calories) - No solid food, but I drink whatever I want. This is the time for Starbucks mochas and small McDonald's vanilla shakes. A lot of Miso soup. Exercise a lot and drink a lot of water.

Day 2 - (less than 500 calories) - No solid food. No vanilla shakes, but squeeze in mocha's and miso soup. Exercise a lot and drink a lot of water.

Day 3+ - (less than 60 calories) - Exercise a lot and drink a lot of water. The only calories come from Miso soup. The only reason miso soup is even being consumed is that it provides a "lunch" and a "dinner" for phycological reasons.

After drinking water, even with electrolytes I find that I have to go to the bathroom within 1/2 an hour and expel practically all of it. This is not good because dehydration will kill you. A dizzy spell while driving is a serious issue. Many fasters use "No Salt" in their water to provide potassium. I do that too and add a dash of soy sauce to my water for taste.

During the water fasting part I feel I must walk at least 15k steps and 1/2 hour of weight lifting to have high energy. Otherwise I feel sluggish.

During this entire time I am not hungry. I only feel hungry after I start eating solid food.

I think I would get very sick on a diet like that but good luck to you!

@cuddlyme - Actually te opposite. My wife came back from vacation with a nasty cold. I was fine. If you think about it, everyone who is dieting on this site is trying to eat less than the calories they burn. They hope to burn through the glucose and then burn fat and lose weight. All fasting does is remove the "burning glucose" part.

I agree that having solid food triggers the hunger. In my case I've noticed that when I have over 60gr of carbs, I get hungrier after a few hours and it is not pleasant. I'm trying to keep the carbs at bay. How long are you planning to do a VLCD?

Healing medicine has many directions. Fasting is good for detox of harmful stuff. If course fasting should be done Max for 3 days and should include juices, teas and broths. Water fasting probably if you are purging all the evil inside of you, or in death row close to the fatal moment. I am sorry, it's the way I think, detox fasting, good. Water fasting, bad.

@Damaris Berdut - There is no science to back your statements :) Also it doesn't make sense. Most people on this site are try to burn fat. How does juices help with this?

@apantoja - If I eat a small amount of carbs I get really hungry. This is why I turned to fasting because it takes hunger off the table. My current plan is to water fast 5 days a week until I get to my goal weight. The only reason I am not staying on the fast straight through is that there are weekly social eating events that I want to participate in.

@JLente, @marshakanady - Thanks for the support!

@MillaLite - Thanks. I also noticed that when fasting I jog up the stairs at work. I NEVER do that otherwise. Dehydration is my only enemy. The potassium has helped a lot.

I am sorry, I apologize. You know how doctors and medicine are, so many opinions and all different. I read a lot but somehow I concentrate in what makes sense to me. I am more traditional on my weight loss approach, this new revolution of keto, bariatric surgery, fasting sounds crazy to me. I feel we need to escape reality and avoid traditional dieting because is simply soooo hard and boring. It's the truth. I tried keto, egg fast and even the cookie diet and spent 300$buying diet cookies that ended up in the salvation army. I donated them and the employees are them as a snack with a glass of milk. Keto for me was mostly about exotic cheeses, pork rinds and salami, and constipation. Because I was a compulsive eater and a compulsive Dieter. I say I was because I am working on changing that and learn new habits, against my will. Believe me I rather eat chips with dip as dinner than a chefs salad. So that's my story, those are my facts based on psychology and psychiatry. But dad diets will always exist and short term fixes too. I am sorry, but keto is a way of disguising compulsive eating and dieting. It's so hard to accept and comprehend. But there are many books on eBay, about this way if thinking. But hey, to allow you in fatsecret, I was a sick person. Maybe you guys have discovered a new way of life thru this diets, things that I don't know because I didn't do it correctly. Sooo.... That's why slowly I am comprehending and understanding the positive aspects of this diets. Take care and I will try to concentrate more on my journey, but I do wish everyone the best, always. Because you are me and I am you. Bye bye love and peace.

@Damaris Berdut - No worries :) It may help to know where I am coming from. Look at my weight history on FatSecret (you can see everything I have logged over 6 years). I initially lost weight of Atkins but was stuck between 220-215 for years. believe me I tried REALLY hard to lose weight. I mean REALY REALLY hard. The diet didn't fail, I just couldn't do it. If you eat 1200 calories and exercise you will lose weight... I just couldn't do it. So I tried fasting. For the first time in years I am finally losing weight. So fasting is just something I am able to do.

I noticed that if I do not have enough carbs I can actually feel my sugar take a nosedive and I don’t feel well so I have to maintain a certain amount of carbs in my diet. I think I would get very sick trying to get my carbs down too low. I really don’t like the feeling of being spaced out.

@cuddlyme - It is normal to feel uncomfortable as "Switching away from glycogen as your principal energy source causes the "low-carb flu" (see: Losing Water Weight: How Carbs Really Work: https://bit.ly/2nkvUez). However, when you reduce your carbs to practically zero all the problems go away. Energy goes up, not down. Hunger, usually triggered by depletion of glucose, disappears. However, I need to fast for 3+ days achieve this effect.

@Draglist - My mental ability to control my carb cravings is simply "broken". This afternoon I just ate 210 calories of crackers :( The only reason I stopped was that I ran out of them! (sigh). If it weren't for fasting I would just give up. Only one more day of eating (Sunday) and then I'm going back to my new "Normal" :)

Before your carb cravings began to come back/be overwhelming, had you recently begun to eat something new or in different quantities? Had your day-to-day circumstances changed? Or are you at the same weight you were when something very stressful or life altering happened in your life in the past? Answering these questions, even just to yourself, may help you ferret out the problem.

@cjodyssey - I have always been this way :) For 20 years I have been 60 pounds overweight. I have tried really hard to change. I worked Atkins (you guys call it Keto these days) really badly (meaning I never really went below 100 carbs a day) and still lost weight, but it stops working if you have too many cheat days. Fasting was the 'last house on the block' for me.
